BRITER in Practice · Organizational Health

Rising Revenue,
Rising Turnover.

The number improved. The system did not. A strong KPI can conceal the cost of the result.

An organization celebrates rising revenue while experienced employees keep leaving. Hiring costs climb. Institutional knowledge walks out the door. The KPI says success. The people system is signaling something else.

Symptom

Numbers are up, but good people keep leaving. The organization replaces talent faster than it understands the loss.

Root cause

The KPI is being purchased at the cost of organizational conditions. Resilience and Trust are being spent to hit the target.

Pillars affected

Resilience: workload is unsustainable. Trust: leaders are not listening. Empowerment: employees have little voice in how the work gets done.

Highest-leverage move

Rebalance the dashboard. Read condition and behavior indicators beside the KPI, then protect workload and recognition before the talent base collapses.

Before you act

  • What would it mean if the people leaving are your healthiest people, the ones who know they deserve better?
  • What story are the people who stay telling themselves about why they are still here?
  • If you removed the revenue number, what would the organization’s health actually look like?
  • What is this result costing that never appears on the financial statement?

The trap

Replacing people faster instead of understanding why they leave. A retention bonus cannot repair a condition the organization refuses to see.
